Bolivia a country privileged
By its tourist attractions but surprisingly lacking in publications on the theme by the mass circulation media, either nationally or internationally. The presentation of the present publication has the objective of filling this gap and to provide the potential tourist with a panorama of the extraordinary varieties of tourist attraction available.
The country which is lodged in the very heart of South America, enjoys a wide variety of cultures, landscapes and civilizations related to the particular geographic areas which vary from 4,000 meters above sea level on the high mountain encircled plains (altiplano), down through the fertile subtropical valleys ranging between 1,200 and 2,400 meters altitude, to the tropical Amazonian forest regions to the east.
Each zone custodies the evidence of past civilizations that inhabited them; the ancient Tiwanacu culture represented by its mysterious ruins on the borders of the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world; the more recent Inca dynasty represented by it's fortresses, trails and agriculture on the high plains and valleys, and finally the beautiful Missions left by the Jesuits and Franciscans during the Spanish Colony in the tropical forests of the lowlands.
Not less fascinating are the natural panoramas and landscapes on the highlands and the Amazon basin forests and rivers in the lowlands, each with their own particular attraction. The sad but beautiful highland plain bordered by the Royal and Andean snow capped mountain chains, the awe-inspiring Uyuni Salt lake reputedly the world's largest and the Red and Green Lagoons with their own particular fauna of Flamingos, Vicuñas, Ñandus, Llamas and Condors. In contrast, the sub-tropics and tropics where the Amazon river is born, with protected virgin forests and innumerable species of wild life and flora.
This country of dramatic contrasts, still practically virgin, is gradually adapting to the demands of modern day tourism reflected by transport and hotel infrastructure, but, at the same time preserving the authenticity of it's communities and original human settlements, deserves the attention of responsible tourism that appreciates natural beauty and habitat. |
